Ben O'Donoghue, Celebrity Chef "As individuals, it is our responsibility to make an effort for the future of our children and their children, to sustain this planet for generations to follow. While the politicians of the world may argue about the cost and even the validity of climate change, the issue does not go away. A single person might not think they can make a big change for the better but a journey of a thousand miles starts with one step and if everyone takes one step, then we can be well down the road in no time. |

Nick Earls, Author ‘I’m a lifelong omnivore and I have to admit I love eating meat. Just thinking about it now I can see some in a Homer Simpson thought bubble above my head. But I can’t completely ignore the negative impact on animals, and on the planet, so we’re going to cut down. At least one extra dinner a week at our place will be meat-free. I’m the food buyer and chef, so it’ll be up to me to face the challenge of going veg and making it interesting. I’ll be putting the call out for recipes from today. This is something I have been thinking of doing for some time, so Earth Hour provides the perfect platform for me to put my plan into action.’ |

Simon Corbell, Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Water. "Turning off lights for one hour is an important symbolic gesture to help protect the world from the threats of climate change, but people need to adopt this habit more regularly both at home and in the workplace."
"The Government is committed to the need to establish strategies to fight climate change and support sustainability, such as through our Draft Sustainable Energy Policy, Electricity Feed-in Tariff and the proposed solar power facility.
"These holistic approaches are important, but equally as important are the grass roots level actions and Earth Hour is a significant way people can make an individual contribution to tackling climate change." |
