Harness the power of renewable energy, reduce the impact of climate change and bring light and hope to children living in remote communities in Papua New Guinea.

WWF-Australia’s Earth Hour is working in partnership with an innovative Australian charity called SolarBuddy to provide solar lights to children living in remote communities in Papua New Guinea. Children in these communities often don’t have access to electricity in their homes and schools, severely limiting their opportunity to learn and thrive. But, with a handy solar-powered light they’ll be able to continue studying long after the sun goes down.

Providing access to renewable energy solutions can change the lives of children living without access to modern electricity - transforming their future by improving education, health, economic and environmental outcomes. The gift of a solar light can bring hope and opportunity to the life of a child living in energy poverty and help them to reach their full potential.

Our Earth Hour Solar Light challenge teaches Aussie students about energy poverty and its limitations, the science of renewable energy, and how a simple solution - like a solar light - can make a positive difference. The challenge empowers participants to embrace sustainable solar energy solutions to help transform lives, economies and the planet in a fun hands on and engaging format.
