Sam’s Challenge 60: Making Memories in Nature

08 Apr 2025

For Sam, a passionate science teacher currently on maternity leave, Challenge 60 became the perfect way to reconnect with nature, her children, and her sense of purpose. As someone who has always championed conservation in the classroom, she saw the challenge as a meaningful way to lead by example - not only for her students but for her own young family. With a degree in zoology, Sam has long been an advocate for wildlife and the environment, and Challenge 60 offered her a chance to turn that passion into action. “We always try to teach the students about ways we can help maintain and conserve the environment,” she explained. “I wanted to do my part and show one of the ways we could help.”

Taking on the challenge as a mum of little ones, Sam was drawn to the flexibility of Challenge 60 - participants are encouraged to move for nature for 60 minutes each day for 22 days, in whatever way works for them. For Sam, that meant daily walks and the occasional swim, often with her kids in tow. It became a joyful routine, not just for the physical benefits but for the quality time it created. “We got out together and explored places I’d never even been before - there were so many hidden gems just in our local community,” she said.

More than just a fundraising goal, the experience became a key part of Sam’s postpartum recovery, helping her to stay active and support her mental health during a time of transition. “It definitely helped me heal postpartum by keeping me moving, which really benefited my mental wellbeing,” she shared. Now, with memories of nature walks, new discoveries, and shared adventures with her children, Sam encourages others to take the leap. “Definitely do it! You won’t ever regret getting outside in nature and taking in all of the beautiful views and experiences our environment has to offer.” Challenge 60, she says, is not just about raising funds - it’s about reconnecting with what matters most.
