Challenge 60 - Doing it again
Wednesday 25th FebI’m doing Challenge 60 for Earth Hour again this year, for the 3rd time. When I started 3 years ago I honestly didn’t think much of it at the time — it just seemed like a good excuse to get outside more. But I ended up really appreciating what it did for my routine and my headspace.
Challenge 60 is pretty simple. It’s about spending 60 minutes outside each day; walking, running, cycling, whatever works, and properly switching off from technology while you do it. No scrolling, no emails, no podcasts blasting in your ears (well… maybe sometimes). Just being outside.
I think I underestimate how much time I spend looking at screens. Work, social media, messages, news, it adds up quickly. Having a reason to step away for an hour makes a bigger difference than I expect. It’s not about doing anything extreme or turning into a super fit outdoorsy person. Some days it’ll be a proper walk, other days it might just be a slower wander to clear my head. The point is just to go.
Last year I noticed that the days I got outside felt calmer. I slept better. I felt less “stuck” in my own thoughts. It’s such a simple thing, but it works.
So I’m doing it again. Not perfectly, not with big goals attached, just with the intention of making space each day to be outside and switch off a bit more.
If you’ve been feeling like you need a reset, this is a pretty easy place to start.
