I'm taking time out for nature!

Nature is the best part of humanity and provides us with such beauty and resources. These include not just food, shelter, water and air, but mental and physical health. This provides us with much joy and wonder at the incredible diversity nature provides.

We all need to take time with nature, whether it's 60 seconds, 60 minutes or beyond the hour.

I am taking time out for nature and have joined the world's biggest movement to protect this amazing and spectacular planet. I will be doing a mix of bike riding, bird spotting with my Jasper (his fave pastime) or restoring a piece of nature out the front of my road for wildlife.  I will be helping to protect and regenerate nature - restoring the planet for everything that calls it home.

By shining a spotlight on nature and the devastation that has happened in many parts of this planet, I hope to support Earth with a brighter future. Help me in my challenge by sponsoring me today.

My Updates

Day 28 - Last day finishing with Earth Hour tonight!

Saturday 28th Mar
Wow, where has March gone? I have enjoyed doing this challenge. Today, well, how could I not walk with my beautiful dog Jasper? He really got into the rhythm of dirt track. He enjoyed watching the Kangaroos all come out and eat the grass that the recent rain had produced. A cool, calm afternoon, just before dusk. Lots of galahs, lorikeets, rosellas and corellas and various wrens all doing the last thing of the day. Enjoy Earth Hour everyone! Thank you, one last time, for following me and supporting my challenge. Your support helps return forests, which provide homes for many endangered species and species at risk, such as koalas, Tassie devils and spotted quolls. A few last photos: White corellas high on a tree, jasper on the dirt track and the last sunset for this challenge. The last two will be on the main page. Take care, everyone.

Day 27 - One day left!

Friday 27th Mar
Today, well, tonight was night spotting. No bats or owls once again. But I heard in the distance what sounded like possums having a "chat", lots of frogs and that last of the small wrens and magpies settling down for the night. Sometime the wallabies and kangaroos come around at night but if they were there the night vision googles did not detect them. Still,  a lovely, though cool night to be watching.
Earth Hour is tomorrow and  if you haven't sponsored, now it the time so we can all protect nature. Take care everyone. LJ

Day 26 - Another clean up

Friday 27th Mar
Due to time schedules clean up around the native habitat and garden. Really rewarding to  tidy up a bit and get things ready for an understory that will help animals  with both food and somewhere to live.
Don't forget, two days left until Earth Hour at 8:30pm. Where we turn off electricity for one hour to show our support for nature. Take care everyone. Lj

Day 25 - An afternoon with nature and a couple of bikes

Wednesday 25th Mar
Today, my lovely husband came with me. It was a lovely afternoon, which started a bit warm and muggy but ended cooler. The magpies were loud and galahs. We are so lucky to live in such beautiful surroundings and have nature all around. I am proud to be helping the World Wildlife Fund raise much-needed money to help support animals like koalas. In the eastern states and other fire-burnt areas, habitat has been scarce; Tasmania, with the tassie devils and their facial tumour disease, also needs help. I hope you have enjoyed the ride with me. Consider supporting such a worthwhile cause. Many blessings. Lisa

Day 24 - Yep, walking and animal spotting with Jasper

Tuesday 24th Mar
There was no way Jasper was going to let me do the bike this morning.  Thus, we ended up going to my favourite dirt track and did the 4 km at a semi-leisurely pace.  Some colourful characters were in fine form, mainly galahs. The magpies were singing their best, and various wrens and lorikeets were also out and about today. Not as many kangaroos or Wallabies. But they were scattered through the distance paddocks. With all the stopping and starting that drove my app nuts, it took a touch over 60 minutes, and Jasper seemed much better for it.
Don't forget, only 4 days left of this challenge and with the finish of Earth Hour, where we turn everything off for 60 minutes at 8:30 pm. So, sponsor now and let's support nature. She keeps us fed, warm and great for mental health. Until tomorrow. Lj

Day 23 - A little bit of this and that

Monday 23rd Mar
Well, today I did a couple of things. I did the bike, which was 1 hr and 17 min, but I also walked my husband's dog, Jack. Jasper was seriously unimpressed and woofed the whole time we were away. Which was about 26 minutes. So I guess I am taking him for a long walk tomorrow, right?  It is unseasonably warm now that autumn is here. But Easter is around the corner, so one last gasp of warmth.
This is also the last week of Challenge 60. Saturday is the final day with Earth Hour at 8:30 pm. Remember to switch off for the hour!
Consider sponsoring. Every little bit helps, and the more we support nature, the better life will be for all of us. Take care, everyone. Lj

Day 22 - End of day bike ride

Sunday 22nd Mar
Well, after a day at work and a workshop tomorrow on wildlife rescue. A bike ride won the day. It was a lovely evening, with light still in the sky. I managed to do 1 hr and 16 mins, so about average. Though I only stopped 3 times, which was quite good for me. Have a lovely night. Lj

Day 23 - A bit of night watching

Sunday 22nd Mar
Well, today's activity was with my lovely husband and our dogs. We went up to the top garden, not far from where I started removing invasive weeds and plan on putting back an understory. However, it was dark. The dogs loved it! They watched the stars and planes move, and we heard the frogs in top form. In the distance, closer to the rehab part of nature, I heard little birds starting to settle for the night. Jasper loved hearing that one, but he never left my side. A perfect night. Oddly, we did not see any owls or bats pass us. We normally do when we night watch. Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. Lj

Day 21 - One Week Left!

Saturday 21st Mar
One week left for Challenge 60 and Earth Hour. Today, it was a tough decision. I was really missing my bike, and my beautiful dog Jasper really wanted some time too. Bike won.... Jasper and I will have a play afterwards and cuddle. It is the Equinox today and the start of Autumn. I have noted the days getting cooler, despite that last gasp of warmth leading up to the easter break. A lovely time to ride or walk amongst the trees. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. LJ

Day 20 - The Friday Walk

Friday 20th Mar
Well, Friday is instead of being my bike day. Has ended up being a walking day with my lovely husband and our 2 dogs. Of course, on my favourite dirt track. The dogs are starting to really enjoy it and smell the difference each time they go. We saw foxes, rabbits, and magpies. But, also, we saw (as the light faded just a touch earlier each time we go, as it is the Autumn Equinox tomorrow), bats darting in and out of the protected nature we pass. A lovely thing to see how they move so seamlessly between everything. I hope you all had a lovely day and a great weekend. LJ

Day 19 Jasper time and opportunistic walk

Friday 20th Mar
Well, Thursdays for me, like Tuesdays, can get rather busy. I managed to take Jasper on a walk for about 20 minutes, during which we didn't really see much wildlife except sheep and the odd magpie.  I ended up with a random gap at work. So, I took the opportunity to walk along the creek. I saw magpies, willy wagtails, blue wrens and Australian white Ibis. A gentle sunny day with no fog or mist. A real treat in the middle of the day. I hope you had a great day, everyone and apologies that this was a day late in letting you know.

Day 18 - Removal of weeds

Wednesday 18th Mar
Well, I had full intentions of both removing invasive weeds as well as a walk or a ride. But when I started, time just flew, and I ran out of time to do both.  I put it as 2 hours, but it was probably more than that. I just didn't look at the time. Raining again and misty. But still a lovely thing to do.

day 17 walking during my break

Tuesday 17th Mar
Another misty and gently rainy day today.  I found myself with a gap big enough to do my walk in.  I am not far from the Laratinga Wetlands at work so off I went. The birds were chirping away and I went off to the Wetlands via the creek. It was so lovely to have that time out. A place to decompress,  unwind and enjoy nature. Take care everyone.  Lj

Day 16 - A rainy day walk

Monday 16th Mar
Well, I am really enjoying this time with Jasper on my favourite dirt track. The loudest birds today were the rosellas. Jasper loved sniffing around and watching a large mob of kangaroos eat in the rain. A big grin. We also passed some calves and small goats; they were really interested in us and approached us. My big, brave kelpie cross decided that, despite the fact that I have been slowly training him, it was safer watching them while on my feet.  A love gentle moment with a soft breeze and soft rain throughout the walk. Much-needed rain, so all I have to say is:  GO NATURE! You are wonderful.

Day 15 - Over halfway now

Sunday 15th Mar
Well, a lovely Sunday and the bike beckoned me for a ride. While a warm and slightly muggy day, the wind made the ride rather cool and a lovely thing to do. It was quite out there today. Not much happening.  But now we are just over halfway way through the challenge 60. Thanks for sticking with me. With kindest Lj

Day 14 - OMG! We saw a Koala on our walk!

Saturday 14th Mar
Yes. You read correctly. Also, YES, that is the photo of today.  A lovely evening, we enjoyed our walk so much we just had to do it again. This time, at the end of the dirt track just before we turn around, I saw little pellets. Initially thinking of a smaller marsupial. I started to look around for where our furry friend was.
My husband and I hear koalas at our place, but it was so amazing to see one somewhere else. While you will see the koala photo here, I will also put up the poo shot. Again, you read correctly, the poo was what helped me find our friend hovering right over the road. Talk about drop bears..... ;)

A sunset/ evening walk

Friday 13th Mar
What a busy day. The only spot I had was at sunset. My lovely husband and our 2 dogs went for an evening walk, and we spotted Kangaroo mobs all through my favourite dirt track. The dogs had big, silly grins on their face when we returned.
I have learnt that today is a double donation day, up to $100 until the funds run out. I wish I had known yesterday, so I could let my tribe know. So, sponsor today, and if there is something left, your donation to this amazing organisation will double up to $100.
The photos today will be one of Jasper looking over a paddock in sunset with Roo's in the background, and I will also post up the sunset we saw and a closer image of a mum and joey.
Thanks for reading and consider supporting to help nature bounce back. Yours truly, LJ :D

A little night spotting... I tried...

Thursday 12th Mar
Hi All, I ran out of time to do a daytime activity,  so I tried to do some night spotting at that little patch I am rehabilitating. I thought I would see if any animals came through it at least. I managed to get 30 minutes in. No animals, it just seemed to open for them. However, my goats found me, and I got busted. No one was going to come near this patch of nature with them wanting my attention. Oh well. At least I got 30 minutes in, I will tack the remaining 30 minutes onto tomorrow's activity. Have a lovely night everyone.

Bird Spotting with Jasper

Thursday 12th Mar
Hi All, yesterday Jasper and I went to the Wetlands in Mt Barker, SA. It was not a long walk; it was more a gentle stroll around until we found a quiet place to spot animals, mainly birds. We eventually found a quiet section where there was a seat and watched for 20 mins.  While moving we saw lots of water type birds like ducks and water-fowl. But, we also saw a rabbit, superb-fairy wrens, blue wrens and rosellas. When sitting, we sat on a tiny section just to see what would come just to that bit. Not many, only a few rosellas, one duck and one wren tree hoping.  Still, nice to just sit and watch. I originally was going to do it closer to home but a friend mentioned this. So, I changed my mind. A lovely thing to do. Take care everyone! Until next time.
GO NAUTRE!

Day 10 from personal best to Personal slowest :p

Tuesday 10th Mar
Well, yesterday I had a personal best on my bike. But today it was my slowest. Still, I don't mind; the weather was wonderful. Here in SA, we really need a large dump of rain, like many parts of Australia. But it was still wonderful to get amongst the trees, hear the animals, and wind through the leaves. This photo is one of the many beautiful trees I get to ride past.

Which to do? Hmmmm

Monday 9th Mar
Ok, today was a really lovely day. I had trouble deciding which task to do.  So, I did 2 of them.  I did the bike ride, and when I returned, I did a little more on the native section out the front of my property. Almost ready to plant some things. It was a really lovely day for this sort of thing.
Take care, everyone and thanks for reading. Consider sponsoring and supporting nature.

Sunday Day 8 Nature rehab

Monday 9th Mar
Well, Yesterday I started that rehab project out the front of our property. I removed all the blackberries and other invasives and some excess dried wood to keep things fire safe, also. keeping in mind small stuff animals need for nesting and bug health. It isn't finished yet. Cut down tall grass, and just one more plant to rehome. Then, put in an understory, and I have been keeping little logs for native species to live in. Little by little,  and I might add a bit of extra mulch to keep things moist in a dry climate.

Day 7, but activity 6, walking with Jasper

Saturday 7th Mar
Well, yesterday I needed to get to the vets in my spare time and I ran out of daylight. So, tomorrow I will be making up the hour by doing a small rehab of a native patch out the front of where I live. Removing weeds and putting some homes there for the native species.
Today, however, Jasper and I did a 5.51 km walk along the road as sunset. We saw yellow-tailed black cockatoos, magpies, ravens, a parrot of some sort, too far to tell and various small birds. Some were looking for bugs, and some were getting some last bit of pollen from flowers. A beautiful walk.  Here is a photo of what we saw on that walk. I was surprised at how many protected and rehabilitated areas there were on such a busy road.

Day 5 - Back to the bike!

Thursday 5th Mar
Such a beautiful day today. Did the bike ride, found it a tough challenging but finished. Today, the ravens and parrots were the loudest singing high in trees in groups. Thanks for following and consider sponsoring me for a great organisation that helps as many species on the planet as they can.

Animal Spotting walk with Jasper and Others

Wednesday 4th Mar
Well, Jasper had Jack accompany him on his Kuitpo Forest walk. They had a great time sniffing and watching and watching. One bush was particularly interesting. Birds, while we heard a lot, only got one confirmed bird sighting. There were 2 yellow-tailed black-cockatoos (Zanda funerea)  high in a pine tree. But hey, what's a lovely bit of animal spotting and walking without a little treat too?  The photo today is Jasper at the cafe at the forest tree climb.

Day 4 - Kuitpo Forest Walk and Animal Spotting

Wednesday 4th Mar
Hi All, today both Jasper and his housemate Jack and his bestie will go to Kuitpo Forest for a walk and animal spotting. This is a sustainable forest industry that has lots of native sections in it for wildlife and recreational uses. They even allow horses to ride there. This will be our afternoon activity. I will keep you posted on what we see! :D

Day 3 - Animal Spotting Today

Tuesday 3rd Mar
Well, the distance was low. But Jasper and I did animal spotting on my favourite dirt road. Loads of Magpies, willy wag tails, galahs, parrots and other small birds all chirping away in the morning air. Also saw a large mob of roos on a farm having their breaky. The photo is a small snapshot as they were quite a distance down the gully.
Came back home and we watched the birds in the bush surrounding the farms and our house. Saw at least 15 ravens at the top of a large old gum tree singing.

Day 2 Shine and Rain :D

Monday 2nd Mar
Well, day 2, and it has been trying to rain all day. I still went on my bike ride around my favourite track. The birds were having a wonderful time cleaning their feathers. In case you are not from around SA, it has been a touch dry this way. I did much better on my ride and stopped a lot less. It was wonderfully enjoyable. Take care everyone! The image today is the second last of the bigger hills that I need to climb to get home.

Day 1 ride through the Adelaide Hills

Sunday 1st Mar
Well, the first ride of the challenge down. Here is a photo of my favourite dirt road.  Lots of wildlife on this road, and it is really quiet. The whole ride took me 1 hour, 19 minutes, and it was 16 km.  A few stops, especially up the 10-degree gradients. But I did it!

Day 1 start of ride

Sunday 1st Mar

Ready for tomorrow!

Saturday 28th Feb
Tomorrow the Challenge 60 starts. If there is no lightning, I am hoping to pop on the bike or take Jasper on a spotting trip. Maybe both. Please go to my page and sponsor nature! Thank you.
